The developer cost is the largest expense in creating a small website. Learn enough to be your own developer. A website can vary wildly in price between $600 and $6,000,000 (depending on your needs).

Some time between 2007 and 2009 it started to become evident that an emerging set of web based tools were becoming good enough to create entry level websites. Often at a fraction of the cost that a competent web developer would charge.

Beginning in 2007 we tried these new platforms and started to use our knowledge to teach basic web principles to students. Since then we've refined the approach and the result is a step by step recipe to get started with a website on these new platforms.
